Visiting the Museum

You can visit the Museum for a self-guided tour of its permanent collection or exhibitions. In addition, special tours and educational talks can be booked for schools and other groups. And there is a school holiday program for primary age children.

Opening Hours

The Reserve Bank Museum is open between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday except Public and New South Wales Bank holidays.

Other Group Bookings

The Reserve Bank of Australia Museum offers a range of presentations for groups of all levels of knowledge and age ranges, including groups with accessibility requirements.

  • A minimum of 10 people is required to place a booking.
  • All educational services from the Bank are free of charge.

Our Museum Staff will advise during the booking process of the best-suited presentation topics for your group (topics offered will depend on a group's subject knowledge, background and any associated studies).

A Guided Tour of the Museum

Museum Educators will provide a Guided Tour through the Museum displays, explaining how the story of Australia's banknotes has unfolded against the backdrop of the country's broader history.

Duration: 20-30 minutes
Audience: Suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Exploring Australia's Banknotes

Museum Educators will provide an interactive presentation exploring the security features, production process and lifecycle of Australia's banknotes. It will focus on the currently released Next Generation Banknotes and explore the topic of counterfeiting.

Duration: 30 minutes.
Audience: Suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

General Public

Members of the public are welcome to enquire with Museum Staff of any upcoming group tours in which they may be able to attend. Please call (+61 2 9551 9743) or email Museum Staff directly for availability.

Regular Events

The Museum participates in Sydney Open, NAIDOC Week, and History Week and runs a regular School Holiday Program. More information about these events and upcoming talks can be found on the Events section of the Museum website.

Train

The Museum is close to two train stations: Martin Place and St James. Wynyard Station is about a 10 minute walk.

Ferry

Alight at Circular Quay for bus routes 372, 373 or X73 to Martin Place (Elizabeth Street) and walk up Martin Place to the Museum. Alternatively, the walk from Circular Quay to the Museum takes around 10 minutes.

Bus

There are a number of bus routes that stop close to the Museum. Visit the Sydney Buses website to find your most convenient route.

Parking

Parking stations close by include:

  • The Domain Car Park, Marys Road, Sydney
  • Parkhouse Car Park, 187 Macquarie Street, Sydney

There is also metered parking available near the Museum.
